Walk through creating a property, adding units, and setting rent amounts.
Before you can do anything else — collect rent, create leases, track expenses — you need to add at least one property with units. Think of it as setting up the foundation.
How to add a property
- Go to Properties in the sidebar
- Click Add Property
- Enter the property name (e.g., "123 Main St" or "The Brewster House"), address, and property type (single family, multi-family, condo, etc.)
- Click Save
Adding units
Once your property is created, you'll add individual units. Even if it's a single-family home, you still need one unit — that's what tenants, leases, and charges are tied to.
- From the property page, click Add Unit
- Enter the unit number (or name), bedroom/bathroom count, square footage, and monthly rent amount
- Click Save
You can add as many units as you need. Each unit tracks its own tenant, lease, and payment history independently.
Tips
- Rent amounts are in dollars — enter 1500 for $1,500/month, not cents
- You can edit everything later — don't worry about getting it perfect the first time
- Multi-unit buildings — add each apartment as a separate unit (e.g., Unit 1A, Unit 1B)
