Setting Up Rent Collection

To collect rent through Domara, you need to connect a Stripe account. Stripe handles the money movement — when a tenant pays, the funds go directly to your connected bank account.

How to connect Stripe

1. Go to Settings in the sidebar
2. Find the Stripe Connect section
3. Click Connect Stripe Account
4. Follow the Stripe setup flow — you'll enter your bank account details, identity verification, and business info
5. Once approved, you're ready to collect payments

Creating charges

After Stripe is connected, you can create rent charges for your tenants:

1. Go to Payments in the sidebar
2. Click Create Charge
3. Select the tenant, enter the amount, set the due date, and choose the charge type (rent, deposit, fee, etc.)
4. Click Create

The tenant will be notified and can pay directly from their dashboard.

How tenants pay

Tenants can pay by:

• Card — 3.5% processing fee (paid by tenant)
• ACH bank transfer — $1 flat fee (paid by tenant)

You receive the full rent amount. Processing fees are covered by the tenant, not you.

Tips

• Set up recurring charges to auto-generate rent charges each month — no manual work
• Late fees can be configured in Settings to apply automatically after a grace period
• Manual payments — if a tenant pays by cash or check, you can log it manually to keep your records complete
